Further distribution of this work must maintain attribution to the author(s) and the published article's title, journal citation, and DOI.Precise knowledge of hadron production rates in the generation of neutrino beams is necessary for accelerator-based neutrino experiments to achieve their physics goals. NA61/SHINE, a large-acceptance hadron spectrometer, has recorded hadron+nucleus interactions relevant to ongoing and future long-baseline neutrino experiments at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. This paper presents three analyses of interactions of 60 GeV/c π+ with thin, fixed carbon and beryllium targets. Integrated production and inelastic cross sections were measured for both of these reactions. In an analysis of strange, neutral hadron production, differential production multiplicities of KS0, Λ and Λ were measured. Lastly, in an analysis of charged hadron production, differential production multiplicities of π+, π-, K+, K- A nd protons were measured. These measurements will enable long-baseline neutrino experiments to better constrain predictions of their neutrino flux in order to achieve better precision on their neutrino cross section and oscillation measurements.

    © 2019 IEEE.The problem of modelling the absorption coefficient and refractive index spectra of III-V heterostructures with multiple quantum wells and superlattices under applied electric field is considered. This is a crucial step in the design of efficient and compact electro-optic modulators. The goal of this work is to find a simple, fast and reliable method to qualitatively compare various heterostructure designs. Which is why two-band effective mass approximation is used here. The paper contains comparison of existing methods as well as some new results.

    Two-particle correlations in azimuthal angle and pseudorapidity in central 7Be + 9Be collisions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron

    © 2020, The Author(s).A measurement of charged hadron pair correlations in two-dimensional Δ ηΔ ϕ space is presented. The analysis is based on total 30 million central Be + Be collisions observed in the NA61/SHINE detector at the CERN SPS for incident beam momenta of 19A, 30A, 40A, 75A, and 150A Ge/c. Measurements were carried out for unlike-sign and like-sign charge hadron pairs independently. The C(Δ η, Δ ϕ) correlation functions were compared with results from a similar analysis on p + p interactions at similar beam momenta per nucleon. General trends of the back-to-back correlations are similar in central Be + Be collisions and p + p interactions, but are suppressed in magnitude due to the increased combinatorial background. Predictions from the Epos and UrQMD models are compared to the measurements. Evolution of an enhancement around (Δ η, Δ ϕ) = (0 , 0) with incident energy is observed in central Be + Be collisions. It is not predicted by both models and almost non-existing in proton–proton collisions at the same momentum per nucleon.

    Nitro Derivatives of Silaprismanes as High-Energy Compounds: Theoretical Study

    We present ab initio study of structures and properties of silaprismanes Si2nH2n and their nitro derivatives Si2nH2n-1NO2 (n = 3-10). We found that silaprismane Si10H9NO2 possesses the highest stability among all studied cages. Attached NO2 group results in weak decreasing of the HOMO-LUMO gap. The smaller prismanes bind with NO2 groups more strongly. The comparison between silaprismanes and carbon prismanes is also discussed.

    Anisotropy of Assemblies of Densely Packed Co-Alloy Nanoparticles Embedded in Carbon Nanotubes

    IEEEWe report on the magnetic properties of an array of binary metal CoFe, CoNi and CoPt nanoparticles (NPs) embedded inside vertically-oriented carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Samples were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition activated by current discharge plasma and hot filaments. Assemblies of Co-based catalytic NPs have been preliminary formed on SiO2/Si substrates by sputtering of ultrathin films followed by reduction in a H2/NH3 mixture. As a result of the CNT growth, each CNT contained only one ferromagnet top-located NP. For all samples the easy axis of magnetization was oriented along the CNT axis. Using the obtained experimental data and the random anisotropy model, the magnetic parameters like the effective anisotropy constant, the contribution of dipole interaction, shape, magnetocrystalline and magnetoelastic anisotropy were estimated. It is shown that the latter contribution of anisotropy is decisive. From the obtained magnetoelasticity the stresses in NPs embedded inside CNTs were determined. Finally, the magnetization distribution in CoFe, CoNi and CoPt NPs was simulated considering the magnetoelastic contribution.

    © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.Abstract: Experimental and theoretical studies of the processes of mesoporous-silicon carbonization during the formation of buffer layers for the subsequent epitaxy of 3C-SiC films and related wide-gap semiconductors are performed. Analytical expressions for the effective diffusion factor and diffusion length of carbon atoms in a porous system are obtained. The proposed model takes into account the processes of Knudsen diffusion, coagulation and the overgrowth of pores during the formation of a silicon-carbide layer.

    Electron-Quantum Transport in Pseudomorphic and Metamorphic In 0.2 Ga 0.8 As-Based Quantum Wells

Abstract: Metamorphic high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) structures based on deep In 0.2 Ga 0.8 As/In 0.2 Al 0.8 As quantum wells (0.7 eV for Γ electrons) with different metamorphic buffer designs are implemented and investigated for the first time. The electronic properties of metamorphic and pseudomorphic HEMT structures with the same doping are compared. It is found that, over a temperature range of 4–300 K, both the electron mobility and concentration in the HEMT structure with a linear metamorphic buffer are higher than those in the pseudomorphic HEMT structure due to an increase in the depth of the quantum well. Low-temperature magnetotransport measurements demonstrate that the quantum momentum-relaxation time decreases considerably in metamorphic HEMT structures because of enhanced small-angle scattering resulting from structural defects and inhomogeneities, while the dominant scattering mechanism in structures of both types is still due to remote ionized impurities.

    Sol-Gel Fabrication and Luminescence Properties of Multilayer Eu-Doped BaTiO3-SiO2 Xerogel Nanostructures

    With the use of sol-gel method BaTiO3-SiO2 multilayer structures were fabricated on glass or fused silica substrates employing dipping or spinning procedure. The photonic stop band was observed in the reflection and transmission spectra of the multilayer structure annealed at 450 degrees C. It is redshifted with an increase of the thicknesses of BaTiO3 and SiO2 layers. For structures comprising Eu-doped BaTiO3 layers of different thicknesses photoluminescence with the main band at 614 nm was detected. It is characterized with the double-exponential decay with the lifetimes of about 0.5 ms and 1.1 ms which do not depend significantly on the photonic stop band position.

    Donor ionization tuning in AlGaAs/InGaAs/GaAs PHEMT quantum wells with AlAs nanolayers in spacer

A comparison of the electron transport properties of pseudomorphic quantum well AlxGa1-xAs/In0.2Ga0.8As/GaAs with those of conventional donor layer (x = 0.15 and x = 0.25) and with AlAs nanoinserts around the delta-Si layer or AlAs: delta-Si donor layer is presented. The structures with added AlAs layers exhibit electron concentration decrease, combined with increased electron mobility. This effect is related to the suppression of remote ionized impurity electron scattering, change of band structure and decreasing efficiency of silicon atoms doping when incorporating in pure AlAs.

    PLD Grown SiC Thin Films on Al2O3: Morphology and Structure

    © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.Abstract: In this paper, submicron SiC thin films are obtained on α-Al2O3 (0001) substrates from a ceramic target in vacuum by means of pulsed laser deposition. The influence of the substrate temperature on the composition, structure and surface morphology of the experimental samples is studied using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectrometry. It is shown that at Tsub = 1000°C the heteroepitaxial growth of 3C-SiC is observed with the following preferential orientation with respect to the substrate: [0001]Al2O3||[111]SiС and [211A]Al2O3||[211]SiС, [100]Al2O3||[(Formula presented.)]SiС. The shape of the reflections from the {011} and {131} 3C–SiC planes on the electron diffraction pattern indicates the presence of local regions in the film that are rotated at angles of up to 7.5° around the growth axis. Thus, it is found that the 3C–SiC film obtained on α‑Al2O3 at a substrate temperature of 1000°C has a mosaic structure partially compensating for the mechanical stresses arising from a mismatch between the lattice parameters and thermal-expansion coefficients along the basal plane.
