    Nonthermal Mechanism of Defect Formation in the CdHgTe Semiconductor on Exposure to Soft X-rays

    © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.The effect of irradiation with soft X-rays produced by a laser plasma source equipped with an X-ray concentrator on the properties of the CdHgTe semiconductor are investigated. For this purpose, the mass concentration of atoms in the near-surface layer of the material is measured. It is demonstrated that the action of soft X-ray radiation leads to change in the solid-solution composition at the surface via a nonthermal mechanism and generates surface defects.

    Optical Properties of CdSe/ZnS Nanoparticles in Heat-Treated Polyvinylchloride Films

    Composites based on polyvinylchloride with incorporated CdSe/ZnS nanoparticles are produced. The optical and electrical properties of the polymer composites containing CdSe/ZnS nanoparticles are studied. The absorption and photoluminescence spectra of the composites are recorded, and their bulk resistivities are measured. The CdSe nanoparticle dimensions are determined. It is established that, upon short-term heat treatment, the photoluminescence intensity increases, whereas upon heating for a long time, the photoluminescence intensity substantially decreases.

    Erbium–Ytterbium Upconversion in Polyvinyl Chloride Films

    © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.Abstract—: We have prepared a series of polyvinyl chloride–yttrium oxysulfide composites doped with ytterbium and erbium ions and measured their upconversion photoluminescence spectra and volume resistivity. The results demonstrate that the green photoluminescence intensity in the composites is considerably higher than that in yttrium oxysulfide doped with erbium and ytterbium. The resistivity of the composites drops by eight orders of magnitude on heating. Besides, with increasing erbium–ytterbium ion pair concentration, the upconversion photoluminescence intensity in the red and green spectral regions rises, and additional photoluminescence peaks emerge, two in the green and one in the red, owing to the Stark splitting of the erbium terms under the effect of the chlorine present in the polyvinyl chloride. On heating, the PVC–Y2O2S:Yb3+/Er3+ composite passes into a semiconducting state.

A nonlinear multiplicative model is used to represent the relationship between the properties. The coefficients of the model are determined from experimental data. The critical length is calculated for a single filament in the Taparan fiber. The multiplicative model is used to predict the strength properties for filaments of critical length.

A sample of the fiber produced under industrial conditions at the Termoteks plant was investigated. A suspension of Taunit carbon nanotubes was used to modify the fibers. Increased strength characteristics in the fiber and reduced degradation under ultraviolet exposure were obtained as a result of the treatment.

    © 2022, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.The article discusses the application of the bootstrap statistical modeling method for processing the results of strength measurements performed on the Twaron and Taparan aramid fibers. The study was aimed at obtaining the distribution of the location parameter characterizing the onset of the filament destruction. For statistically identical distributions of mean strengths, the location parameters are shown to be statistically different. The obtained results can be used both by technologists to improve fiber technology and by designers of composite materials for ranking during the selection of a fiber for specific operating conditions.

It is shown that the critical length changes and the ultimate strength increases by 16.45% when finished fiber is exposed to a weak electromagnetic field.

    © 2020, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.The results of processing of experimental data on strength of individual filaments of basalt and Taparan aramid fibers using new pentaparametric distribution are presented. Distribution enables determination of minimally and maximally possible (experimental) values for an experimental data array. Previously, this distribution was tested for steel strength determination results published by W. Weibull. The obtained results can be used for determination of fiber use potential for fabrication of composites. Initial experimental data on the strength of filaments and the results of their treatment are furnished.
