Measurement of anisotropic flow in XeXe collisions at 5.44 TeV with the CMS experiment
(2019) Stojanovic, M.; Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Azarkin, M.; Dremin, I.; Kirakosyan, M.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Поликарпов, Сергей Михайлович; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич
New measurements of anisotropic flow in XeXe collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.44 TeV per nucleon pair, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, are presented. The v(2), v(3) and v(4) Fourier coefficients of the anisotropic azimuthal distribution are obtained employing three different analysis techniques: two-particle correlations, the scalar product method, and multiparticle cumulants, which have different sensitivities to non-flow and flow fluctuation effects. The results are shown as a function of transverse momentum (P-T) for various centrality selections, and compared with corresponding results from PbPb collisions. These new measurements in a smaller nucleus-nucleus system than PbPb provide additional insights into the system-size dependence of the collective flow induced by the dominant collision geometry and its fluctuations. In particular, these results, compared to theoretical predictions and Monte Carlo generators, will provide important details on the system size dependence of the medium response in heavy ion collisions. They also offer a unique opportunity to study the onset of flow from small to large systems.

Calibration of the CMS hadron calorimeters using proton-proton collision data at s = 13 TeV
(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Matveev, V.; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич
© 2020 CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration..Methods are presented for calibrating the hadron calorimeter system of the CMS detector at the LHC. The hadron calorimeters of the CMS experiment are sampling calorimeters of brass and scintillator, and are in the form of one central detector and two endcaps. These calorimeters cover pseudorapidities |η| < 3 and are positioned inside the solenoidal magnet. An outer calorimeter, outside the magnet coil, covers |η| < 1.26, and a steel and quartz-fiber Cherenkov forward calorimeter extends the coverage to |η| < 5.19. The initial calibration of the calorimeters was based on results from test beams, augmented with the use of radioactive sources and lasers. The calibration was improved substantially using proton-proton collision data collected at s = 7, 8, and 13 TeV, as well as cosmic ray muon data collected during the periods when the LHC beams were not present. The present calibration is performed using the 13 TeV data collected during 2016 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1. The intercalibration of channels exploits the approximate uniformity of energy collection over the azimuthal angle. The absolute energy scale of the central and endcap calorimeters is set using isolated charged hadrons. The energy scale for the electromagnetic portion of the forward calorimeters is set using Z→ ee data. The energy scale of the outer calorimeters has been determined with test beam data and is confirmed through data with high transverse momentum jets. In this paper, we present the details of the calibration methods and accuracy.

Measurement of differential cross sections and charge ratios for t-channel single top quark production in proton–proton collisions at √s=13Te
(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич
© 2020, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.A measurement is presented of differential cross sections for t-channel single top quark and antiquark production in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13Te by the CMS experiment at the LHC. From a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1, events containing one muon or electron and two or three jets are analysed. The cross section is measured as a function of the top quark transverse momentum (pT), rapidity, and polarisation angle, the charged lepton pT and rapidity, and the pT of the W boson from the top quark decay. In addition, the charge ratio is measured differentially as a function of the top quark, charged lepton, and W boson kinematic observables. The results are found to be in agreement with standard model predictions using various next-to-leading-order event generators and sets of parton distribution functions. Additionally, the spin asymmetry, sensitive to the top quark polarisation, is determined from the differential distribution of the polarisation angle at parton level to be 0.440 ± 0.070 , in agreement with the standard model prediction.

Search for high mass dijet resonances with a new background prediction method in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич
© 2020, The Author(s).A search for narrow and broad resonances with masses greater than 1.8 TeV decaying to a pair of jets is presented. The search uses proton-proton collision data at s = 13 TeV collected at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1. The background arising from standard model processes is predicted with the fit method used in previous publications and with a new method. The dijet invariant mass spectrum is well described by both data-driven methods, and no significant evidence for the production of new particles is observed. Model independent upper limits are reported on the production cross sections of narrow resonances, and broad resonances with widths up to 55% of the resonance mass. Limits are presented on the masses of narrow resonances from various models: string resonances, scalar diquarks, axigluons, colorons, excited quarks, color-octet scalars, W′ and Z′ bosons, Randall-Sundrum gravitons, and dark matter mediators. The limits on narrow resonances are improved by 200 to 800 GeV relative to those reported in previous CMS dijet resonance searches. The limits on dark matter mediators are presented as a function of the resonance mass and width, and on the associated coupling strength as a function of the mediator mass. These limits exclude at 95% confidence level a dark matter mediator with a mass of 1.8 TeV and width 1% of its mass or higher, up to one with a mass of 4.8 TeV and a width 45% of its mass or higher. Search for an excited lepton that decays via a contact interaction to a lepton and two jets in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич
© 2020, The Author(s).Results are presented from a search for events containing an excited lepton (electron or muon) produced in association with an ordinary lepton of the same flavor and decaying to a lepton and two hadronic jets. Both the production and the decay of the excited leptons are assumed to occur via a contact interaction with a characteristic energy scale Λ. The branching fraction for the decay mode under study increases with the mass of the excited lepton and is the most sensitive channel for very heavy excited leptons. The analysis uses a sample of proton-proton collisions collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC at s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 77.4 fb−1. The four-body invariant mass of the two lepton plus two jet system is used as the primary discriminating variable. No significant excess of events beyond the expectation for standard model processes is observed. Assuming that Λ is equal to the mass of the excited leptons, excited electrons and muons with masses below 5.6 and 5.7 TeV, respectively, are excluded at 95% confidence level. These are the best limits to date. [Figure not available: see fulltext.]

Search for direct top squark pair production in events with one lepton, jets, and missing transverse momentum at 13 TeV with the CMS experiment
(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич
© 2020, The Author(s).A search for direct top squark pair production is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC during 2016, 2017, and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1. The search is carried out using events with a single isolated electron or muon, multiple jets, and large transverse momentum imbalance. The observed data are consistent with the expectations from standard model processes. Exclusions are set in the context of simplified top squark pair production models. Depending on the model, exclusion limits at 95% confidence level for top squark masses up to 1.2 TeV are set for a massless lightest supersymmetric particle, assumed to be the neutralino. For models with top squark masses of 1 TeV, neutralino masses up to 600 GeV are excluded. [Figure not available: see fulltext.]

Observation of nuclear modifications in W± boson production in pPb collisions at sNN=8.16TeV
(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Dremin, I.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Поликарпов, Сергей Михайлович; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич
© 2019 The Author(s)The production of W± bosons is studied in proton-lead (pPb) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of sNN=8.16TeV. Measurements are performed in the W±→μ±νμ channel using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 173.4±6.1nb−1, collected by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC. The number of positively and negatively charged W bosons is determined separately in the muon pseudorapidity region in the laboratory frame |ηlab μ|<2.4 and transverse momentum pT μ>25GeV/c. The W± boson differential cross sections, muon charge asymmetry, and the ratios of W± boson yields for the proton-going over the Pb-going beam directions are reported as a function of the muon pseudorapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame. The measurements are compared to the predictions from theoretical calculations based on parton distribution functions (PDFs) at next-to-leading-order. The results favour PDF calculations that include nuclear modifications and provide constraints on the nuclear PDF global fits.

Measurement of electroweak production of a W boson in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at √s=13Te
(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Chadeeva, M.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Matveev, V.; Dremin, I.; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич
© 2020, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.A measurement is presented of electroweak (EW) production of a W boson in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at s=13Te. The data sample was recorded by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1. The measurement is performed for the ℓνjj final state (with ℓν indicating a lepton–neutrino pair, and j representing the quarks produced in the hard interaction) in a kinematic region defined by invariant mass mjj>120Ge and transverse momenta pTj>25Ge. The cross section of the process is measured in the electron and muon channels yielding σEW(Wjj)=6.23±0.12(stat)±0.61(syst)pb per channel, in agreement with leading-order standard model predictions. The additional hadronic activity of events in a signal-enriched region is studied, and the measurements are compared with predictions. The final state is also used to perform a search for anomalous trilinear gauge couplings. Limits on anomalous trilinear gauge couplings associated with dimension-six operators are given in the framework of an effective field theory. The corresponding 95% confidence level intervals are -2.3

(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич
© 2020, The Author(s).A search for lepton flavour violating decays of a neutral non-standard-model Higgs boson in the μτ and eτ decay modes is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy s = 13 TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The τ leptons are reconstructed in the leptonic and hadronic decay modes. No signal is observed in the mass range 200–900 GeV. At 95% confidence level, the observed (expected) upper limits on the production cross section multiplied by the branching fraction vary from 51.9 (57.4) fb to 1.6 (2.1) fb for the μτ and from 94.1 (91.6) fb to 2.3 (2.3) fb for the eτ decay modes. Search for light pseudoscalar boson pairs produced from decays of the 125 GeV Higgs boson in final states with two muons and two nearby tracks in pp collisions at s=13TeV
(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Dremin, I.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Поликарпов, Сергей Михайлович; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич
© 2019 The Author(s)A search is presented for pairs of light pseudoscalar bosons, in the mass range from 4 to 15 GeV, produced from decays of the 125 GeV Higgs boson. The decay modes considered are final states that arise when one of the pseudoscalars decays to a pair of tau leptons, and the other one either into a pair of tau leptons or muons. The search is based on proton-proton collisions collected by the CMS experiment in 2016 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV that correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The 2μ2τ and 4τ channels are used in combination to constrain the product of the Higgs boson production cross section and the branching fraction into 4τ final state, σB, exploiting the linear dependence of the fermionic coupling strength of pseudoscalar bosons on the fermion mass. No significant excess is observed beyond the expectation from the standard model. The observed and expected upper limits at 95% confidence level on σB, relative to the standard model Higgs boson production cross section, are set respectively between 0.022 and 0.23 and between 0.027 and 0.19 in the mass range probed by the analysis.
