Measurement of anisotropic flow in XeXe collisions at 5.44 TeV with the CMS experiment
(2019) Stojanovic, M.; Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Azarkin, M.; Dremin, I.; Kirakosyan, M.;
New measurements of anisotropic flow in XeXe collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.44 TeV per nucleon pair, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, are presented. The v(2), v(3) and v(4) Fourier coefficients of the anisotropic azimuthal distribution are obtained employing three different analysis techniques: two-particle correlations, the scalar product method, and multiparticle cumulants, which have different sensitivities to non-flow and flow fluctuation effects. The results are shown as a function of transverse momentum (P-T) for various centrality selections, and compared with corresponding results from PbPb collisions. These new measurements in a smaller nucleus-nucleus system than PbPb provide additional insights into the system-size dependence of the collective flow induced by the dominant collision geometry and its fluctuations. In particular, these results, compared to theoretical predictions and Monte Carlo generators, will provide important details on the system size dependence of the medium response in heavy ion collisions. They also offer a unique opportunity to study the onset of flow from small to large systems.

(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Dremin, I.;
© 2019, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.Measurements are presented of the triple-differential cross section for inclusive isolated-photon+jet events in p p collisions at s=8 TeV as a function of photon transverse momentum (pTγ), photon pseudorapidity (ηγ), and jet pseudorapidity (ηjet). The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7fb-1 that probe a broad range of the available phase space, for | ηγ| < 1.44 and 1.57 < | ηγ| < 2.50 , | ηjet| < 2.5 , 40 25GeV. The measurements are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculations, which reproduce the data within uncertainties.

Search for the associated production of the Higgs boson and a vector boson in proton-proton collisions at=13 TeV via Higgs boson decays to leptons
(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Dremin, I.; Chadeeva, M.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.;
A search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a W or a Z boson and decaying to a pair of leptons is performed. A data sample of proton-proton collisions collected at p s = 13TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb. The signal strength is measured relative to the expectation for the standard model Higgs boson, yielding = 2: 5 +1:4. These results are combined with earlier CMS measurements targeting Higgs boson decays to a pair of leptons, performed with the same data set in the gluon fusion and vector boson fusion production modes. The combined signal strength is = 1: 24 +0:29 (1: 00 +0:24 expected), and the observed signi fi cance is 5.5 standard deviations (4.8 expected) for a Higgs boson mass of 125GeV.

Evidence for light-by-light scattering and searches for axion-like particles in ultraperipheral PbPb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV
(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.;
© 2019 The Author(s)Evidence for the light-by-light scattering process, γγ→γγ, in ultraperipheral PbPb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02TeV is reported. The analysis is conducted using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 390μb−1 recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Light-by-light scattering processes are selected in events with two photons exclusively produced, each with transverse energy ET γ>2GeV, pseudorapidity |ηγ|<2.4, diphoton invariant mass mγγ>5GeV, diphoton transverse momentum pT γγ<1GeV, and diphoton acoplanarity below 0.01. After all selection criteria are applied, 14 events are observed, compared to expectations of 9.0±0.9(theo) events for the signal and 4.0±1.2(stat) for the background processes. The excess observed in data relative to the background-only expectation corresponds to a significance of 3.7 standard deviations, and has properties consistent with those expected for the light-by-light scattering signal. The measured fiducial light-by-light scattering cross section, σfid(γγ→γγ)=120±46(stat)±28(syst)±12(theo)nb, is consistent with the standard model prediction. The mγγ distribution is used to set new exclusion limits on the production of pseudoscalar axion-like particles, via the (Figure presented.) process, in the mass range (Figure presented.).

Measurement of inclusive very forward jet cross sections in proton-lead collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV
(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Bylinkin, A.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Azarkin, M.; Dremin, I.; Kirakosyan, M.;
© 2019, The Author(s). Measurements of differential cross sections for inclusive very forward jet production in proton-lead collisions as a function of jet energy are presented. The data were collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC in the laboratory pseudorapidity range −6.6 < η < −5.2. Asymmetric beam energies of 4 TeV for protons and 1.58 TeV per nucleon for Pb nuclei were used, corresponding to a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sNN = 5.02 TeV. Collisions with either the proton (p+Pb) or the ion (Pb+p) traveling towards the negative η hemisphere are studied. The jet cross sections are unfolded to stable-particle level cross sections with p T ≳ 3 GeV, and compared to predictions from various Monte Carlo event generators. In addition, the cross section ratio of p+Pb and Pb+p data is presented. The results are discussed in terms of the saturation of gluon densities at low fractional parton momenta. None of the models under consideration describes all the data over the full jet-energy range and for all beam configurations. Discrepancies between the differential cross sections in data and model predictions of more than two orders of magnitude are observed.[Figure not available: see fulltext.].

Search for anomalous electroweak production of vector boson pairs in association with two jets in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV
(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Chadeeva, M.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Matveev, V.; Dremin, I.;
© 2019 The Author(s)A search for anomalous electroweak production of WW, WZ, and ZZ boson pairs in association with two jets in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV at the LHC is reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1 collected with the CMS detector. Events are selected by requiring two jets with large rapidity separation and invariant mass, one or two leptons (electrons or muons), and a W or Z boson decaying hadronically. No excess of events with respect to the standard model background predictions is observed and constraints on the structure of quartic vector boson interactions in the framework of dimension-8 effective field theory operators are reported. Stringent limits on parameters of the effective field theory operators are obtained. The observed 95% confidence level limits for the S0, M0, and T0 operators are −2.7

    Search for a low-mass τ − τ + resonance in association with a bottom quark in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Dremin, I.;
© 2019, The Author(s).A general search is presented for a low-mass τ−τ+ resonance produced in association with a bottom quark. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The data are consistent with the standard model expectation. Upper limits at 95% confidence level on the cross section times branching fraction are determined for two signal models: a light pseudoscalar Higgs boson decaying to a pair of τ leptons produced in association with bottom quarks, and a low-mass boson X decaying to a τ-lepton pair that is produced in the decay of a bottom-like quark B such that B → bX. Masses between 25 and 70 GeV are probed for the light pseudoscalar boson with upper limits ranging from 250 to 44 pb. Upper limits from 20 to 0.3 pb are set on B masses between 170 and 450 GeV for X boson masses between 20 and 70 GeV.[Figure not available: see fulltext.].

Measurement of electroweak WZ boson production and search for new physics in WZ + two jets events in pp collisions at s=13TeV
(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Matveev, V.; Dremin, I.;
© 2019 The Author(s)A measurement of WZ electroweak (EW) vector boson scattering is presented. The measurement is performed in the leptonic decay modes WZ→ℓνℓ′ℓ′, where ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV at the LHC collected with the CMS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The WZ plus two jet production cross section is measured in fiducial regions with enhanced contributions from EW production and found to be consistent with standard model predictions. The EW WZ production in association with two jets is measured with an observed (expected) significance of 2.2 (2.5) standard deviations. Constraints on charged Higgs boson production and on anomalous quartic gauge couplings in terms of dimension-eight effective field theory operators are also presented.

Search for associated production of a Higgs boson and a single top quark in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV
(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Dremin, I.; Chadeeva, M.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.;
A search is presented for the production of a Higgs boson in association with a single top quark, based on data collected in 2016 by the CMS experiment at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The production cross section for this process is highly sensitive to the absolute values of the top quark Yukawa coupling, y(t); the Higgs boson coupling to vector bosons, g(HVV); and, uniquely, their relative sign. Analyses using multilepton signatures, targeting H -> WW, H -> tau tau, and H -> ZZ decay modes, and signatures with a single lepton and a b (b) over bar pair, targeting the H -> b (b) over bar decay, are combined with a reinterpretation of a measurement in the H -> gamma gamma channel to constrain y(t). For a standard model-like value of g(HVV), the data favor positive values of y(t) and exclude values of y(t) below about -0.9y(t)(SM).

A search for pair production of new light bosons decaying into muons in proton-proton collisions at 13  TeV
(2019) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Dremin, I.;
© 2019 The Author(s)A search for new light bosons decaying into muon pairs is presented using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy s=13TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The search is model independent, only requiring the pair production of a new light boson and its subsequent decay to a pair of muons. No significant deviation from the predicted background is observed. A model independent limit is set on the product of the production cross section times branching fraction to dimuons squared times acceptance as a function of new light boson mass. This limit varies between 0.15 and 0.39 fb over a range of new light boson masses from 0.25 to 8.5 GeV. It is then interpreted in the context of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model and a dark supersymmetry model that allows for nonnegligible light boson lifetimes. In both cases, there is significant improvement over previously published limits.
