© 2021 Elsevier GmbHA new generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation is presented. A characteristic feature of this equation is that it takes into account both an arbitrary reflective index in optical fiber and the phenomenon of non-local nonlinearity. It is shown that the equation has exact solutions in the form of solitary waves, which can be considered as optical solitons. Special cases of the equation and its solutions are also considered.
