    Measurement of prompt D0, D+, D*+, and DS+ production in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV
(2019) Acharya, S.; Adamova, D.; Adhya, S. P.; Adler, A.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Bolozdynya, A.; Borissov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.;
© 2019, The Author(s).The measurement of the production of prompt D0, D+, D*+, and DS+ mesons in proton–lead (p–Pb) collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sNN = 5.02 TeV, with an integrated luminosity of 292 ± 11 μb−1, are reported. Differential production cross sections are measured at mid-rapidity (−0.96 < ycms< 0.04) as a function of transverse momentum (pT) in the intervals 0 < pT< 36 GeV/c for D0, 1 < pT< 36 GeV/c for D+ and D*+, and 2 < pT< 24 GeV/c for D+ mesons. For each species, the nuclear modification factor RpPb is calculated as a function of pT using a proton-proton (pp) ref- erence measured at the same collision energy. The results are compatible with unity in the whole pT range. The average of the non-strange D mesons RpPb is compared with theoretical model predictions that include initial-state effects and parton transport model predictions. The pT dependence of the D0, D+, and D*+ nuclear modification factors is also reported in the interval 1 < pT< 36 GeV/c as a function of the collision centrality, and the central-to-peripheral ratios are computed from the D-meson yields measured in different centrality classes. The results are further compared with charged-particle measurements and a similar trend is observed in all the centrality classes. The ratios of the pT-differential cross sections of D0, D+, D*+, and DS+ mesons are also reported. The DS+ and D+ yields are compared as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity for several pT intervals. No modification in the relative abundances of the four species is observed with respect to pp collisions within the statistical and systematic uncertainties. [Figure not available: see fulltext.].

Spin alignment measurements using vector mesons with ALICE detector at the LHC
(2019) Singh, R.; Acharya, S.; Acosta, F. T.; Adamova, D.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.;
We present new measurements related to spin alignment of K*(0) vector mesons at mid-rapidity for Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV. The spin alignment measurements are carried out with respect to production plane and 2nd order event plane. At low p(T) the spin density matrix element rho(00) for K*(0) is found to have values slightly below 1/3, while it is consistent with 1/3, i.e. no spin alignment, at high p(T). Similar values of rho(00) are observed with respect to both production plane and event plane. Within statistical and systematic uncertainties, rho(00) values are also found to be independent of root s(NN). rho(00) also shows centrality dependence with maximum deviation from 1/3 for mid-central collisions with respect to both the kinematic planes. The measurements for K*(0) in pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV and for K-s(0) (a spin 0 hadron) in 20-40% central Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV are consistent with no spin alignment.

ALICE results on system-size dependence of charged-particle multiplicity density in p-Pb, Pb-Pb and Xe-Xe collisions
(2019) Kim, B.; Acharya, S.; Acosta, F. T.; Adamova, D.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.;
Particle production at LHC energies involves the interplay of hard (perturbative) and soft (non-perturbative) QCD processes. Global observables, such as the charged-particle multiplicity, are related to the initial geometry and the energy density produced in the collision. They are important to characterise relativistic heavy-ion collisions and to constrain model calculations. The LHC produced Xenon-Xenon collisions for the first time in October 2017. New results on the primary charged-particle pseudorapidity density, and its pseudorapidity and centrality dependence are presented for this lighter and deformed nucleus, and compared to measurements obtained for lead ions. New results will also be presented for p-Pb collisions at the highest energy of 8.16 TeV, as part of an overview of all the measurements at LHC Run 1 and 2 energies. These studies allow us to investigate the evolution of particle production with energy and system size and to compare models based on various particle production mechanisms and different initial conditions.

Heavy-flavour hadron decay leptons in Pb-Pb and Xe-Xe collisions at the LHC with ALICE
(2019) Dubla, A.; Acharya, S.; Acosta, F. T.; Adamova, D.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.;
Heavy quarks, i.e. charm and beauty, are sensitive probes of the medium produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. They are produced in the early stage of the collision, mainly in hard partonic scattering processes, and are expected to experience the whole collision evolution interacting with the medium constituents via both elastic and inelastic processes. The nuclear modification factor (R-AA) is one of the main experimental observables that allow us to investigate the interaction strength of heavy quarks with the medium. The ALICE collaboration measured the production of open heavy-flavour hadrons via their semi-leptonic decays to electrons at mid-rapidity and to moons at forward rapidity in elementary proton-proton (pp) collisions as well as p-Pb, Ph-Ph and in Xe-Xe collisions.

Measurements of inclusive jet spectra in pp and central Pb-Pb collisions at root S-NN=5.02 TeV
(2020) Acharya, S.; Adamova, D.; Adler, A.; Adolfsson, J.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Bolozdynya, A.; Borissov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.;
This article reports measurements of the p(T)-differential inclusive jet cross section in pp collisions at root S = 5.02 TeV and the p(T)-differential inclusive jet yield in Pb-Pb 0-10% central collisions at root S-NN = 5.02 TeV. Jets were reconstructed at midrapidity with the ALICE tracking detectors and electromagnetic calorimeter using the anti-k(T) algorithm. For pp collisions, we report jet cross sections for jet resolution parameters R = 0.1-0.6 over the range 20 < p(T,jet) < 140 GeV/c, as well as the jet cross-section ratios of different R and comparisons to two next-to-leading-order (NLO)-based theoretical predictions. For Pb-Pb collisions, we report the R = 0.2 and R = 0.4 jet spectra for 40 < p(T,jet) < 140 GeV/c and 60 < p(T,jet) < 140 GeV/c, respectively. The scaled ratio of jet yields observed in Pb-Pb to pp collisions, R-AA, is constructed, and exhibits strong jet quenching and a clear p(T) dependence for R = 0.2. No significant R dependence of the jet R-AA is observed within the uncertainties of the measurement. These results are compared to several theoretical predictions.

Scattering Studies with Low-Energy Kaon-Proton Femtoscopy in Proton-Proton Collisions at the LHC
(2020) Acharya, S.; Adamova, D.; Adhya, S. P.; Adler, A.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Bolozdynya, A.; Borissov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.;
The study of the strength and behavior of the antikaon-nucleon ((K) over bar N) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K+ p circle plus K- (p) over bar) and (K- p circle plus K+ (p) over bar) pairs measured in pp collisions at root s = 5, 7, and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 MeV/c in the measured correlation function of (K- p circle plus K+ (p) over bar) with a significance of 4.4 sigma constitutes the first experimental evidence for the opening of the ((K) over bar (0)(n) circle plus K-0 (n) over bar) breaking channel due to the mass difference between charged and neutral kaons. The measured correlation functions have been compared to Julich and Kyoto models in addition to the Coulomb potential. The high-precision data at low relative momenta presented in this work prove femtoscopy to be a powerful complementary tool to scattering experiments and provide new constraints above the (K) over barN threshold for low-energy QCD chiral models.

Measurement of strange baryon–antibaryon interactions with femtoscopic correlations
(2020) Acharya, S.; Adamova, D.; Adhya, S. P.; Adler, A.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Bolozdynya, A.; Borissov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.;
© 2020 The Author(s)Two-particle correlation functions were measured for pp‾, pΛ‾, p‾Λ, and ΛΛ‾ pairs in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV and sNN=5.02 TeV recorded by the ALICE detector. From a simultaneous fit to all obtained correlation functions, real and imaginary components of the scattering lengths, as well as the effective ranges, were extracted for combined pΛ‾ and p‾Λ pairs and, for the first time, for ΛΛ‾ pairs. Effective averaged scattering parameters for heavier baryon–antibaryon pairs, not measured directly, are also provided. The results reveal similarly strong interaction between measured baryon–antibaryon pairs, suggesting that they all annihilate in the same manner at the same pair relative momentum k⁎. Moreover, the reported significant non-zero imaginary part and negative real part of the scattering length provide motivation for future baryon–antibaryon bound state searches.

Pion-kaon femtoscopy in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV measured with ALICE
(2019) Pandey, A. K.; Acharya, S.; Acosta, F. T.; Adamova, D.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.;
Femtoscopic correlations between charged pions and kaons for different charge combinations are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The three-dimensional pion-kaon (pi - K) correlation functions and double ratios in the out-side-long pair rest frame are studied in different centrality bins. The pi - K femtoscopic source size parameter (R-out) and emission asymmetry (mu(out)) are extracted. It is observed that the average source size of the system and the emission asymmetry between pions and kaons increase from peripheral to central events.
