The problem of the hardware response function calculation for the URAGAN hodoscope (MEPhI) is analyzed. The simpli ed hodoscope model is developed for which the response function is found out analytically. It is shown that the presence of non-detecting intervals (gaps between detectors) leads to the response function that includes azimuthal dependence. A numerical procedure of the response function calculation is developed for the URAGAN hodoscope. The result is in correlation with the averaged matrix data from the hodoscope. The application of response function analyses to detecting of reduced muon ux areas is demonstrated. Further re nement of response function calculation is discussed.

V.; Яшин, Игорь Иванович; Астапов, Иван Иванович; Дмитриева, Анна Николаевна; Мишутина, Юлия Николаевна; Шутенко, Виктор ВикторовичMuon hodoscope URAGAN (MEPhI, Moscow) with an area of 45 sq. m is capable of real time detection of the tracks of all muons arriving from the upper celestial hemisphere with a high spatial and angular accuracy (1 cm and 1 degree, respectively). The measured angular distribution of the muons flux over a certain period of exposure time and expressed in R.M.S. deviations from an averaged reference matrix and corrected for barometric and temperature effects represents a matrix-muonograph (by analogy with X-ray radiography) of the Earth's atmosphere and near-terrestrial space. Such muonograph contains information on the current variation the flux of cosmic muons associated with modulation processes in the heliosphere, magnetosphere and atmosphere of the Earth. The sequence of muonographs converted to the GSE coordinate system allows one to study in real time the dynamics of cosmic ray anisotropy and to identify in advance geoeffective processes in the heliosphere associated with solar activity. Results of the analysis of the anisotropy of the cosmic ray muon flux at the minima of the 23rd (2009-2010) and 24th (2018-2019) solar cycles are discussed. © Copyright owned by the author(s).

We present the results of the detectors energy calibration, performed by comparing their response to different types of particles obtained experimentally and simulated with the Geant4 software package, as well as of the measurements of their timing resolution. We also discuss the results of studies of the light collection non-uniformity of the NEVOD-EAS detectors and of the accuracy of air-shower arrival direction reconstruction, which have been performed using other facilities of the Experimental Complex NEVOD: the muon hodoscope URAGAN and the muon tracking detector DECOR.

All rights reserved.Muon hodoscope URAGAN continuously detects the angular distribution of muons in a wide range of zenith angles and allows one to obtain information about variations, both in the intensity and in angular characteristics of the muon flux, caused by active processes in the heliosphere, the magnetosphere and atmosphere of the Earth. Various parameters of the muon flux anisotropy and methods of calculation of these parameters are discussed. Real-time processing of a continuous flow of multidimensional data from the muon hodoscope URAGAN is quite a challenge. In the article, methods of formation and primary analysis of the data, their processing in real time and obtaining time series of various parameters of integral counting rate and angular anisotropy of the muon flux, which are important for the physical analysis of modulation processes of cosmic rays in the heliosphere, are presented.

Characteristics are given of the yearly average diurnal variation in the count rate in several zenith-angle intervals. The results are compared to the diurnal variations in the count rate of neutrons from ten neutron monitors.

Characteristics of the Forbush effects for this period are analyzed. The obtained characteristics of muon flux variations are compared to different parameters of the near heliosphere during the Forbush effects for the 11-year cycle of solar activity.

The muon hodoscope is a scintillation detector consisting of several layers of scintillation strips with fiber optic light collection on silicon photomultipliers (SiPM). Its exact model in the Geant4 software package was developed. With its help, the passage of muons through the detector and the response of the detector to these events are simulated. The reconstruction of the tracks of muons was carried out and the accuracy of their reconstruction was estimated. The obtained distributions of events in the angle between the reconstructed and "real"tracks for various detector parameters and the selection of optimal parameters for the highest accuracy and efficiency of the reconstruction of muon tracks are considered.

S.; Mechraoui, S.; Громушкин, Дмитрий Михайлович; Дмитриева, Анна Николаевна; Кузьменкова, Полина Сергеевна© 2021, Allerton Press, Inc.Abstract: The effect meteorological parameters have on the concentration of thermal neutrons is studied using data from the NEUTRON setup in the period May 2015 to February 2019. Daily and seasonal variations in the neutron count rate are obtained. Such variations are associated with changes in temperature. The effect the depth of the snow cover has on the neutron count rate for four winter periods is estimated. It is shown that meteorological parameters have a considerable impact on the concentration of neutrons near the surface. The total contribution from pressure, temperature, and the depth of the snow cover can be more than 30%.
