M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Azarkin, M.; Dremin, I.; Kirakosyan, M.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Поликарпов, Сергей Михайлович; Русинов, Владимир ЮрьевичNew measurements of anisotropic flow in XeXe collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.44 TeV per nucleon pair, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, are presented. The v(2), v(3) and v(4) Fourier coefficients of the anisotropic azimuthal distribution are obtained employing three different analysis techniques: two-particle correlations, the scalar product method, and multiparticle cumulants, which have different sensitivities to non-flow and flow fluctuation effects. The results are shown as a function of transverse momentum (P-T) for various centrality selections, and compared with corresponding results from PbPb collisions. These new measurements in a smaller nucleus-nucleus system than PbPb provide additional insights into the system-size dependence of the collective flow induced by the dominant collision geometry and its fluctuations. In particular, these results, compared to theoretical predictions and Monte Carlo generators, will provide important details on the system size dependence of the medium response in heavy ion collisions. They also offer a unique opportunity to study the onset of flow from small to large systems.

M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Dremin, I.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич© 2019, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.Measurements are presented of the triple-differential cross section for inclusive isolated-photon+jet events in p p collisions at s=8 TeV as a function of photon transverse momentum (pTγ), photon pseudorapidity (ηγ), and jet pseudorapidity (ηjet). The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7fb-1 that probe a broad range of the available phase space, for | ηγ| < 1.44 and 1.57 < | ηγ| < 2.50 , | ηjet| < 2.5 , 40 25GeV. The measurements are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculations, which reproduce the data within uncertainties.
- ПубликацияТолько метаданныеStudy of central exclusive [InlineEquation not available: see fulltext.] production in proton-proton collisions at √s=5.02 and 13TeV(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Chadeeva, M.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Matveev, V.; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич© 2020, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.Central exclusive and semiexclusive production of [InlineEquation not available: see fulltext.] pairs is measured with the CMS detector in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at center-of-mass energies of 5.02 and 13TeV. The theoretical description of these nonperturbative processes, which have not yet been measured in detail at the LHC, poses a significant challenge to models. The two pions are measured and identified in the CMS silicon tracker based on specific energy loss, whereas the absence of other particles is ensured by calorimeter information. The total and differential cross sections of exclusive and semiexclusive central [InlineEquation not available: see fulltext.] production are measured as functions of invariant mass, transverse momentum, and rapidity of the [InlineEquation not available: see fulltext.] system in the fiducial region defined as transverse momentum [InlineEquation not available: see fulltext.] and pseudorapidity [InlineEquation not available: see fulltext.]. The production cross sections for the four resonant channels [InlineMediaObject not available: see fulltext.], [InlineEquation not available: see fulltext.], [InlineMediaObject not available: see fulltext.], and [InlineMediaObject not available: see fulltext.]are extracted using a simple model. These results represent the first measurement of this process at the LHC collision energies of 5.02 and 13TeV.
- ПубликацияТолько метаданныеPerformance of the CMS Level-1 trigger in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Polikarpov, S.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Matveev, V.; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Поликарпов, Сергей Михайлович; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич© 2020 CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration. At the start of Run 2 in 2015, the LHC delivered proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. During Run 2 (years 2015-2018) the LHC eventually reached a luminosity of 2.1 × 1034 cm-2s-1, almost three times that reached during Run 1 (2009-2013) and a factor of two larger than the LHC design value, leading to events with up to a mean of about 50 simultaneous inelastic proton-proton collisions per bunch crossing (pileup). The CMS Level-1 trigger was upgraded prior to 2016 to improve the selection of physics events in the challenging conditions posed by the second run of the LHC. This paper describes the performance of the CMS Level-1 trigger upgrade during the data taking period of 2016-2018. The upgraded trigger implements pattern recognition and boosted decision tree regression techniques for muon reconstruction, includes pileup subtraction for jets and energy sums, and incorporates pileup-dependent isolation requirements for electrons and tau leptons. In addition, the new trigger calculates high-level quantities such as the invariant mass of pairs of reconstructed particles. The upgrade reduces the trigger rate from background processes and improves the trigger efficiency for a wide variety of physics signals.
- ПубликацияТолько метаданныеDependence of inclusive jet production on the anti-kT distance parameter in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич© 2020, The Author(s).The dependence of inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV on the distance parameter R of the anti-kT algorithm is studied using data corresponding to integrated luminosities up to 35.9 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment in 2016. The ratios of the inclusive cross sections as functions of transverse momentum pT and rapidity y, for R in the range 0.1 to 1.2 to those using R = 0.4 are presented in the region 84 < pT< 1588 GeV and |y|< 2.0. The results are compared to calculations at leading and next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant using different parton shower models. The variation of the ratio of cross sections with R is well described by calculations including a parton shower model, but not by a leading-order quantum chromodynamics calculation including nonperturbative effects. The agreement between the data and the theoretical predictions for the ratios of cross sections is significantly improved when next-to-leading order calculations with nonperturbative effects are used. - ПубликацияТолько метаданныеW+ W- boson pair production in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Oskin, A.; Parygin, P.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир ЮрьевичA measurement of the W+W- boson pair production cross section in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV is presented. The data used in this study are collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The W+W- candidate events are selected by requiring two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons). Two methods for reducing background contributions are employed. In the first one, a sequence of requirements on kinematic quantities is applied allowing a measurement of the total production cross section, 117.6 +/- 6.8 pb, which agrees well with the theoretical prediction. Fiducial cross sections are also reported for events with zero or one jet, and the change in the zero-jet fiducial cross section with the jet transverse momentum threshold is measured. Normalized differential cross sections are reported within the fiducial region. A second method for suppressing background contributions employs two random forest classifiers. The analysis based on this method includes a measurement of the total production cross section and also a measurement of the normalized jet multiplicity distribution in W+W- events. Finally, a dilepton invariant mass distribution is used to probe for physics beyond the standard model in the context of an effective field theory, and constraints on the presence of dimension-6 operators are derived.
- ПубликацияТолько метаданныеSearch for resonant pair production of Higgs bosons in the bbZZ channel in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Bychkova, O.; Chadeeva, M.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир ЮрьевичA search for the production of a narrow-width resonance decaying into a pair of Higgs bosons decaying into the bbZZ channel is presented. The analysis is based on data collected with the CMS detector during 2016, in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The final states considered are the ones where one of the Z bosons decays into a pair of muons or electrons, and the other Z boson decays to either a pair of quarks or a pair of neutrinos. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are placed on the production of narrow-width spin-0 or spin-2 particles decaying to a pair of Higgs bosons, in models with and without an extended Higgs sector. For a resonance mass range between 260 and 1000 GeV, limits on the production cross section times branching fraction of a spin-0 and spin-2 resonance range from 0.1 to 5.0 pb and 0.1 to 3.6 pb, respectively. These results set limits in parameter space in bulk Randall-Sundrum radion, Kaluza-Klein excitation of the graviton, and next-to-minimal two-Higgs doublet models (N2HDMs). For specific choices of parameters the N2HDM can be excluded in a mass range between 360 and 620 GeV for a resonance decaying to two Higgs bosons. This is the first search for Higgs boson resonant pair production in the bbZZ channel.
- ПубликацияТолько метаданныеSearch for supersymmetry in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV in events with high-momentum Z bosons and missing transverse momentum(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Bychkova, O.; Chadeeva, M.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич© 2020, The Author(s).A search for new physics in events with two highly Lorentz-boosted Z bosons and large missing transverse momentum is presented. The analyzed proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1, were recorded at s = 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The search utilizes the substructure of jets with large radius to identify quark pairs from Z boson decays. Backgrounds from standard model processes are suppressed by requirements on the jet mass and the missing transverse momentum. No significant excess in the event yield is observed beyond the number of background events expected from the standard model. For a simplified supersymmetric model in which the Z bosons arise from the decay of gluinos, an exclusion limit of 1920 GeV on the gluino mass is set at 95% confidence level. This is the first search for beyond-standard-model production of pairs of boosted Z bosons plus large missing transverse momentum. [Figure not available: see fulltext.]
- ПубликацияТолько метаданныеMeasurements of the W boson rapidity, helicity, double-differential cross sections, and charge asymmetry in pp collisions at s =13 TeV(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bychkova, O.; Chadeeva, M.; Oskin, A.; Parygin, P.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Matveev, V.; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич© 2020 CERN. The differential cross section and charge asymmetry for inclusive W boson production at s=13 TeV is measured for the two transverse polarization states as a function of the W boson absolute rapidity. The measurement uses events in which a W boson decays to a neutrino and either a muon or an electron. The data sample of proton-proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016 corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1. The differential cross section and its value normalized to the total inclusive W boson production cross section are measured over the rapidity range |yW|<2.5. In addition to the total fiducial cross section, the W boson double-differential cross section, d2σ/dpTd|η|, and the charge asymmetry are measured as functions of the charged lepton transverse momentum and pseudorapidity. The precision of these measurements is used to constrain the parton distribution functions of the proton using the next-to-leading order NNPDF3.0 set.
- ПубликацияТолько метаданныеMeasurement of quark- and gluon-like jet fractions using jet charge in PbPb and pp collisions at 5.02 TeV(2020) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Matveev, V.; Chadeeva, M.; Parygin, P.; Philippov, D.; Popova, E.; Rusinov, V.; Матвеев, Виктор Анатольевич; Чадеева, Марина Валентиновна; Русинов, Владимир Юрьевич© 2020, The Author(s).The momentum-weighted sum of the electric charges of particles inside a jet, known as jet charge, is sensitive to the electric charge of the particle initiating the parton shower. This paper presents jet charge distributions in sNN = 5.02 TeV lead-lead (PbPb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. These data correspond to integrated luminosities of 404 μb−1 and 27.4 pb−1 for PbPb and pp collisions, respectively. Leveraging the sensitivity of the jet charge to fundamental differences in the electric charges of quarks and gluons, the jet charge distributions from simulated events are used as templates to extract the quark- and gluon-like jet fractions from data. The modification of these jet fractions is examined by comparing pp and PbPb data as a function of the overlap of the colliding Pb nuclei (centrality). This measurement tests the color charge dependence of jet energy loss due to interactions with the quark-gluon plasma. No significant modification between different centrality classes and with respect to pp results is observed in the extracted quark- and gluon-like jet fractions. [Figure not available: see fulltext.]
