The detector contains a total of 200 kg of liquid xenon in a titanium cryostat with 160 kg of xenon in active volume inside a Teflon-made light collection cage associated with electrode system. The active volume is viewed by two arrays of nineteen 3′′-diameter Hamamatsu R11410-20 PMTs assembled in two planes on top and bottom. The electrode system is equipped with an electron shutter (a patented device) to reduce a "spontaneous" single-electron noise. The detector was tested in a ground-level laboratory. The obtained results demonstrate that detection of coherent elastic scattering of reactor antineutrinos off xenon nuclei at Kalinin nuclear power plant with the RED-100 detector is feasible with a threshold of 4 ionization electrons.

A number of such experiments are currently under preparation, among them the AMORE (Advanced Mo-based Rare Process Experiment) experiment, the purpose of which is to search for the 0ν2β decay of the 100Mo isotope using scintillation isotope-enriched calcium molybdate 40Ca100MoO4 crystals as a source, and the detector as well. In the material of the crystal, molybdenum and calcium of natural isotopic composition are replaced by isotopically enriched 100Mo and 40Ca, respectively. The requirements to the quality of 40Ca100MoO4 crystals (high light output and its homogeneity in volume, high transparency for scintillation light, and ultra-low content of radioactive impurities in the crystal material) are extremely stringent. JSC “Fomos-Materials” (Moscow) for the first time developed the technology of growing of scintillation isotope-enriched 40Ca100MoO4 crystals, which makes it possible to manufacture scintillation elements with dimensions of Ø40–55 mm and length up to 50 mm, with their subsequent annealing and machining, which completely satisfies the requirements of the experiment.

The shield is composed of a 5‑cm-thick copper layer (the inner layer is adjacent to the detector) and a water layer with a total thickness of approximately 70 cm (including the water inside the copper shield). The Monte Carlo simulation of the shielding efficiency has been performed. The obtained attenuation factor of the copper shield for the γ-ray background has been experimentally verified in a laboratory test using a NaI(Tl) scintillator detector. The γ‑ray background rejection factor of the full shield has also been calculated.

M.; Balata, M.; Belogurov, S.; Kornoukhov, V. N.; Белогуров, Сергей Геннадьевич; Корноухов, Василий Николаевич© 2021, The Author(s).Neutrinoless double-β decay of 76Ge is searched for with germanium detectors where source and detector of the decay are identical. For the success of future experiments it is important to increase the mass of the detectors. We report here on the characterization and testing of five prototype detectors manufactured in inverted coaxial (IC) geometry from material enriched to 88% in 76Ge. IC detectors combine the large mass of the traditional semi-coaxial Ge detectors with the superior resolution and pulse shape discrimination power of point contact detectors which exhibited so far much lower mass. Their performance has been found to be satisfactory both when operated in vacuum cryostat and bare in liquid argon within the Gerda setup. The measured resolutions at the Q-value for double-β decay of 76Ge (Qββ = 2039 keV) are about 2.1 keV full width at half maximum in vacuum cryostat. After 18 months of operation within the ultra-low background environment of the GERmanium Detector Array (Gerda) experiment and an accumulated exposure of 8.5 kg· year, the background index after analysis cuts is measured to be 4.9-3.4+7.3×10-4counts/(keV·kg·year) around Qββ. This work confirms the feasibility of IC detectors for the next-generation experiment Legend.

The performance of the main systems of the RED-100 setup at operating nuclear power plant is described. There is no correlation of the radioactive background at the experimental setup site with ON and OFF states of the reactor. The data taking run was carried out at the beginning of the year 2022 and covered both the reactor OFF and ON periods. © 2022 IOP Publishing Ltd and Sissa Medialab.

S.; Kornoukhov, V.; Toibaev, N.; Корноухов, Василий НиколаевичThe Advanced Mo-based Rare process Experiment (AMoRE)-Pilot experiment is an initial phase of the AMoRE search for neutrinoless double beta decay of 100Mo, with the purpose of investigating the level and sources of backgrounds. Searches for neutrinoless double beta decay generally require ultimately low backgrounds. Surface α decays on the crystals themselves or nearby materials can deposit a continuum of energies that can be as high as the Q-value of the decay itself and may fall in the region of interest (ROI). To understand these background events, we studied backgrounds from radioactive contaminations internal to and on the surface of the crystals or nearby materials with Geant4-based Monte Carlo simulations. In this study, we report on the measured α energy spectra fitted with the corresponding simulated spectra for six crystal detectors, where sources of background contributions could be identified through high energy α peaks and continuum parts in the energy spectrum for both internal and surface contaminations. We determine the low-energy contributions from internal and surface α contaminations by extrapolating from the α background fitting model. © 2022, The Author(s).

Our analysis includes direct dark matter absorption as well as dark Compton scattering. With a total exposure of 105.5 kg years, no evidence for a signal above the background has been observed. The resulting exclusion limits deduced with either Bayesian or Frequentist statistics are the most stringent direct constraints in the major part of the 140-1021 keV mass range. As an example, at a mass of 150 keV the dimensionless coupling of dark photons and axion-like particles to electrons has been constrained to
