A qualitative and quantitative phase analysis of deformed and annealed tubes made of Zr-Nb-(Sn-Fe-O) alloys was carried out using diffraction patterns obtained with synchrotron radiation. The main α-Zr phase and the following additional phases: β-Nb, β-Zr, and the Laves phase (intermetallic compound Zr(Nb,Fe)2), were found in the alloys. According to the results of texture analysis of all phases present in the alloy, the mechanisms of plastic deformation, recrystallization, and phase transformations of the main and additional phases were established. It is shown that during plastic deformation of the Zr-1%Nb alloy, a dynamic phase transformation β-Nb→α-Zr→β-Zr is observed. It is established that during recrystallization, larger grains of α-Zr are misoriented relative to the deformed matrix by rotating the prismatic axes around the basal axes by 30°, while fine grains are improved by polygonization and maintain the orientation of the deformed matrix. Processes for changing the orientation of grains of additional phases as a result of high-temperature annealing are also considered.

To solve this problem, high-temperature brazing was carried out. Cu-Ti brazing alloys, which were rapidly solidified into foil, were used together with a compensating vanadium interlayer, so the EK-181 steel/Cu-28Ti/V/Cu-50Ti/W and EK-181/Cu-50Ti/V/Cu-50Ti/W brazed joints were obtained. The microstructures of the seams were investigated by optical microscopy, SEM (EDX, EBSD) and synchrotron XRD. Thermocycling and shear strength tests showed that Cu-28Ti wt. % brazing alloy ensures a firmer joint compared to Cu-50Ti wt. %. The Cu-28Ti wt. % brazing alloy was used to perform high-temperature brazing in the brazing mode equivalent to traditional EK-181 steel heat treatment. It showed that every step of the heat treatment affected the microstructures and the shear strength.

Deuterium retention in the W-Rusfer joints and separate elements was investigated with the focus on the intermediate brazing layer. The samples were exposed in deuterium gas (p = 1–104 Pa, T = 300–600°C) and plasma discharge (T = 600°C). An acceptable deuterium concentration was observed after gas exposure at the pressure of 1 Pa, that is relevant to operating conditions of future fusion devices, however the brazing alloy and tantalum accumulate a large amount of deuterium in the case of the pressure above 100 Pa that leads to failure of the joint. The D retention after D plasma irradiation was substantial, but nearly independent on the fluence and the thickness of the W layer due to absorption from surrounding D2 gas.

V.; Козлов, Илья Владимирович; Елманов, Геннадий Николаевич; Приходько, Кирилл Евгеньевич; Тарасов, Борис Александрович; Михальчик, Владимир Валерьевич© 2019 Elsevier B.V.Amorphous Co69Fe4Cr4Si12B11 glass-coated microwires after heat treatment in the temperature range of 250–600 °C during 30 min were investigated. Changes of microstructure, phase composition, fracture morphology, and giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) properties were shown. It is confirmed that a significant increase in the GMI effect was possible not only due to the structural relaxation, but also as a result of phase transformations at the temperature close to the onset of crystallization. It is shown that at the very initial stage of the nucleation of Co nanocrystals, a sharp increase in circumferential diagonal GMI component was observed, a further increase in the amount of the crystalline Co phase was accompanied by degradation of this effect. The most significant GMI ratio was obtained for microwires annealed at 430 °C. At 450 °C and above, an irreversible decrease of the GMI ratio took place. It was caused by the formation of Co crystals, decrease in amount and composition change of the amorphous phase during primary and secondary crystallization. At the final stage of the Co crystals segregation the secondary crystallization of the residual amorphous phase occurred with formation of a metastable τ-phase with a Me23B6 type structure. Thermal stability of the τ-phase was analyzed.

The results of X-ray diffraction for research of the microstructure evolution at Synchrotron Radiation Source and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy were considered. The study of the crystallization process kinetics was carried out by a non-conventional method, in particular based on data of sample magnetization changes over time and with temperature at a unique in situ vibromagnetometer. The analysis of the kinetic curves for isothermal and non-isothermal crystallization process led to the similar conclusions and made it possible to establish the values of the Avrami exponent for the initial stage of surface and bulk crystallization, to establish the dimensionality of crystal growth, and to conclude that there was no nucleation in the process of crystal growth. Based on the analysis of kinetic curves by three methods, the activation energy of the primary crystallization process was determined, its high value is associated with the presence of chromium in the alloy, which determines its nanocrystallization. The microstructure and shape of crystals were analyzed.

D.; Odintsov, V. I.; Petrov, V. G.; Popova, A. V.; Kozlov, I. V.; Elmanov, G. N.; Irmagambetova, S. M.; Prikhodko, K. E.; Козлов, Илья Владимирович; Елманов, Геннадий Николаевич; Ирмагамбетова, Сауле Муханбетовна; Приходько, Кирилл Евгеньевич© 2022 Elsevier B.V.This Part 2 focuses on the processes of atomic regions ordering of the amorphous material and continues study of the processes occurring in Part 1. The formation of pre-crystals / clusters and nanocrystallization of Co-based amorphous microwires during DC Joule heating were investigated, as well as the influence of these processes on the electrical resistance of the samples and the effect of giant magnetoimpedance (GMI). In this paper we investigated the dependence of the change in the maximum response of the GMI diagonal component at different temperatures and holding times in the DC Joule heating process, and discuss the effect of the ductile-brittle transition on the electrical resistance and the GMI effect. Using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and the inverse Fourier transform technique, it was shown that at long exposure during the DC Joule heating, significantly below the crystallization temperature (~ 400 °C), the formation and growth of pre-crystals / clusters occur in various sizes (1 – 8 nm) and shapes. At the initial stage of crystallization, the microwire has three distinct regions of the clusters and nanocrystals formation (surface, pre-surface, and bulk). Moreover, pre-crystals / clusters growth and further bulk formation of nanocrystals (of 10 nm and more) leads to a sharp drop in the electrical resistance and degradation of the GMI microwire diagonal component response. The approach of controlled long-term holding during the DC Joule heating applied in the study allows for creation of various nanoscale structures in an amorphous matrix and provides an opportunity to grow of a given structure in amorphous alloys.
