Beam-energy dependence of identified two-particle angular correlations ins root s(NN)=7.7-200 GeV Au + Au collisions

The two-particle angular correlation functions, R-2, of pions, kaons, and protons in Au + Au collisions at A root s(NN) = 7 . 7 , 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV were measured by the STAR experiment at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These correlations were measured for both like-sign and unlike-sign charge combinations and versus the centrality. The correlations of pions and kaons show the expected near-side (i.e., at small relative angles) peak resulting from short-range mechanisms. The amplitudes of these short-range correlations decrease with increasing beam energy. However, the proton correlation functions exhibit strong anticorrelations in the near-side region. This behavior is observed for the first time in an A + A collision system. The observed anticorrelation is p(T) independent and decreases with increasing beam energy and centrality. The experimental results are also compared to the Monte Carlo models UrQMD, Hijing, and AMPT.

© 2020 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved. The anisotropic collective flow is one of the important observable values sensitive to transport properties of strongly interacting matter created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The performance of Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) at NICA collider for elliptic flow measurements with Monte-Carlo simulations using collisions of Au+Au and Bi+Bi ions employing several state of the art event generators is studied. Different methods for flow measurements as event plane and direct cumulants are used to investigate the contribution of non-flow correlations and flow fluctuations.

Classical excluded volume of loosely bound light (anti) nuclei and their chemical freeze-out in heavy ion collisions
    (2020) Grinyuk, B. E.; Bugaev, K. A.; Sagun, V. V.; Ivanytskyi, O. I.; Blaschke, D. B.; Taranenko, A. V.; Тараненко, Аркадий Владимирович
From the analysis of light (anti)nuclei multiplicities that were measured recently by the ALICE collaboration in Pb+Pb collisions at the center-of-mass collision energy root sNN = 2.76TeV, there arose a highly nontrivial question about the excluded volume of composite particles. Surprisingly, the hadron resonance gas model (HRGM) is able to perfectly describe the light (anti) nuclei multiplicities under various assumptions. Thus, one can consider the (anti)nuclei with a vanishing hard-core radius (as the point-like particles) or with the hard-core radius of proton, but the fit quality is the same for these assumptions. It is clear, however, that such assumptions are unphysical. Hence we obtain a formula for the classical excluded volume of loosely bound light nuclei consisting of A baryons. To implement a new formula into the HRGM, we have to modify the induced surface tension concept to treat the hadrons and (anti)nuclei on the same footing. We perform a thorough analysis of hadronic and (anti)nuclei multiplicities measured by the ALICE collaboration. The HRGM with the induced surface tension allows us to verify different assumptions on the values of hard-core radii and different scenarios of chemical freeze-out of (anti)nuclei. It is shown that the unprecedentedly high quality of fit chi(2)(tot)/dof similar or equal to 0.724 is achieved, if the chemical freeze-out temperature of hadrons is about T-h = 150MeV, while the one for all (anti)nuclei is T-A = 174-175.2MeV.

Beam energy dependence of net-Lambda fluctuations measured by the STAR experiment at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider
(2020) Adam, J.; Adamczyk, L.; Adams, J. R.; Adkins, J. K.; Alekseev, I.; Brandin, A. V.; Khyzhniak, Y. V.; Kochenda, L.; Kravtsov, P.; Nigmatkulov, G.; Okorokov, V. The measurements of particle multiplicity distributions have generated considerable interest in understanding the fluctuations of conserved quantum numbers in the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) hadronization regime, in particular near a possible critical point and near the chemical freeze-out. Net-protons and net-kaons have been used as proxies for the net-baryon number and net-strangeness, respectively. We report the measurement of efficiency- and centrality-bin width-corrected cumulant ratios (C-2/C-1,C-3/C-3) of net-A distributions, in the context of both strangeness and baryon number conservation, as a function of collision energy, centrality, and rapidity. The results are for Au + Au collisions at five beam energies (root s(NN) = 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV) recorded with the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR). We compare our results to the Poisson and negative binomial (NBD) expectations, as well as to ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) and hadron resonance gas (HRG) model predictions. Both NBD and Poisson baselines agree with data within the statistical and systematic uncertainties. UrQMD describes the measured net-A C-1 and C-3 at 200 GeV reasonably well but deviates from C-2, and the deviation increases as a function of collision energy. The ratios of the measured cumulants show no features of critical fluctuations. The chemical freeze-out temperatures extracted from a recent HRG calculation, which was successfully used to describe the net-proton, net-kaon, and net-charge data, indicate A freeze-out conditions similar to those of kaons. However, large deviations are found when comparing with temperatures obtained from net-proton fluctuations. The net-A cumulants show a weak but finite dependence on the rapidity coverage in the acceptance of the detector, which can be attributed to quantum number conservation.

Measurement of charged pion double spin asymmetries at midrapidity in longitudinally polarized p plus p collisions at root s=510 GeV
    (2020) Acharya, U.; Adare, A.; Aidala, C.; Ajitanand, N. N.; Riabov, V.; Samsonov, V.; Taranenko, A.; Рябов, Виктор Германович; Тараненко, Аркадий Владимирович
The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has measured the longitudinal double spin asymmetries, A(LL), for charged pions at midrapidity (vertical bar eta vertical bar < 0.35) in longitudinally polarized p + p collisions at root s. = 510 GeV. These measurements are sensitive to the gluon spin contribution to the total spin of the proton in the parton momentum fraction x range between 0.04 and 0.09. One can infer the sign of the gluon polarization from the ordering of pion asymmetries with charge alone. The asymmetries are found to be consistent with global quantum-chromodynamics fits of deep-inelastic scattering and data at root s = 200 GeV, which show a nonzero positive contribution of gluon spin to the proton spin.

© 2020 American Physical Society. We present a measurement of the first-order azimuthal anisotropy v1 of deuterons from Au+Au collisions at sNN=7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, and 39 GeV recorded with the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The energy dependence of the v1(y) slope, dv1/dy|y=0, for deuterons, where y is the rapidity, is extracted for semicentral collisions (10%-40% centrality) and compared with that of protons. While the v1(y) slopes of protons are generally negative for sNN>10GeV, those for deuterons are consistent with zero, a strong enhancement of the v1(y) slope of deuterons is seen at the lowest collision energy (the largest baryon density) at sNN=7.7GeV. In addition, we report the transverse momentum dependence of v1 for protons and deuterons. The experimental results are compared with transport and coalescence models.

Measurement of inclusive J/ψ polarization in p+p collisions at s =200 GeV by the STAR experiment
(2020) Adam, J.; Adamczyk, L.; Adams, J. R.; Adkins, J. K.; Alekseev, I.; Brandin, A. V.; Khyzhniak, Y. V.; Kochenda, L.; Kravtsov, P.; Nigmatkulov, G.; Okorokov, V. © 2020 authors. We report on new measurements of inclusive J/ψ polarization at midrapidity in p+p collisions at s=200 GeV by the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The polarization parameters, λθ, λφ, and λθφ, are measured as a function of transverse momentum (pT) in both the helicity and Collins-Soper (CS) reference frames within pT<10 GeV/c. Except for λθ in the CS frame at the highest measured pT, all three polarization parameters are consistent with 0 in both reference frames without any strong pT dependence. Several model calculations are compared with data, and the one using the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory coupled with nonrelativistic QCD gives the best overall description of the experimental results, even though other models cannot be ruled out due to experimental uncertainties.

Funded by SCOAP3.We present direct photon-hadron correlations in 200 GeV/A Au+Au, d+Au, and p+p collisions, for direct photon pT from 5-12 GeV/c, collected by the PHENIX Collaboration in the years from 2006 to 2011. We observe no significant modification of jet fragmentation in d+Au collisions, indicating that cold nuclear matter effects are small or absent. Hadrons carrying a large fraction of the quark's momentum are suppressed in Au+Au compared to p+p and d+Au. As the momentum fraction decreases, the yield of hadrons in Au+Au increases to an excess over the yield in p+p collisions. The excess is at large angles and at low hadron pT and is most pronounced for hadrons associated with lower momentum direct photons. Comparison to theoretical calculations suggests that the hadron excess arises from medium response to energy deposited by jets.

Measurement of inclusive charged-particle jet production in Au plus Au collisions ats root S-NN=200 GeV
(2020) Adam, J.; Adamczyk, L.; Adams, J. R.; Adkins, J. K.; Alekseev, I.; Brandin, A. V.; Khyzhniak, Y. V.; Kochenda, L.; Kravtsov, P.; Nigmatkulov, G.; Okorokov, V. The STAR Collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider reports the first measurement of inclusive jet production in peripheral and central Au+Au collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV. Jets are reconstructed with the anti-k(T) algorithm using charged tracks with pseudorapidity vertical bar n vertical bar < 1.0 and transverse momentum 0.2 < p(T,jet)(ch) < 30 GeV/c, with jet resolution parameter R = 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4. The large background yield uncorrelated with the jet signal is observed to be dominated by statistical phase space, consistent with a previous coincidence measurement. This background is suppressed by requiring a high-transverse-momentum (high-p(T)) leading hadron in accepted jet candidates. The bias imposed by this requirement is assessed, and the p(T) region in which the bias is small is identified. Inclusive charged-particle jet distributions are reported in peripheral and central Au+Au collisions for 5 < p(T,jet)(ch) < 25 GeV/c and 5 < p(T,jet)(ch) < 30 GeV/c, respectively. The charged-particle jet inclusive yield is suppressed for central Au+Au collisions, compared to both the peripheral Au+Au yield from this measurement and to the pp yield calculated using the PYTHIA event generator. The magnitude of the suppression is consistent with that of inclusive hadron production at high p(T) and that of semi-inclusive recoil jet yield when expressed in terms of energy loss due to medium-induced energy transport. Comparison of inclusive charged-particle jet yields for different values of R exhibits no significant evidence for medium-induced broadening of the transverse jet profile for R <0.4 in central Au+Au collisions. The measured distributions are consistent with theoretical model calculations that incorporate jet quenching.

Funded by SCOAP3.The PHENIX experiment has measured the spin alignment for inclusive J/ψ→e+e- decays in proton-proton collisions at s=510 GeV at midrapidity. The angular distributions have been measured in three different polarization frames, and the three decay angular coefficients have been extracted in a full two-dimensional analysis. Previously, PHENIX saw large longitudinal net polarization at forward rapidity at the same collision energy. This analysis at midrapidity, complementary to the previous PHENIX results, sees no sizable polarization in the measured transverse momentum range of 0.0
