We report the differential charged jet cross section and jet fragmentation distributions measured with the ALICE detector in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy s=7 TeV. Jets with pseudorapidity |η|<0.5 are reconstructed from charged particles using the anti-kT jet-finding algorithm with a resolution parameter R=0.4. The jet cross section is measured in the transverse momentum interval 5≤pTch jet<100 GeV/c. Jet fragmentation is studied measuring the scaled transverse momentum spectra of the charged constituents of jets in four intervals of jet transverse momentum between 5 and 30 GeV/c. The measurements are compared to calculations from the pythia model as well as next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations with powheg+pythia8. The charged jet cross section is well described by powheg for the entire measured range of pTch jet. For pTch jet>40 GeV/c, the pythia calculations also agree with the measured charged jet cross section. pythia6 simulations describe the fragmentation distributions to 15%. Larger discrepancies are observed for pythia8.

P.; Adler, A.; Belyaev, V.; Bogdanov, A.; Bolozdynya, A.; Borissov, A.; Grigoriev, V.; Kaplin, V.; Kondratyeva, N.; Loginov, V.; Melikyan, Y.; Samsonov, V.; Selyuzhenkov, I.; Беляев, Владимир Никитич; Богданов, Алексей Александрович; Болоздыня, Александр Иванович; Григорьев, Владислав Анатольевич; Кондратьева, Наталья Викторовна; Логинов, Виталий Александрович© 2020, CERN for the benefit of the ALICE collaboration. The production of the Λ (1520) baryonic resonance has been measured at midrapidity in inelastic pp collisions at s=7TeV and in p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV for non-single diffractive events and in multiplicity classes. The resonance is reconstructed through its hadronic decay channel Λ (1520) → pK - and the charge conjugate with the ALICE detector. The integrated yields and mean transverse momenta are calculated from the measured transverse momentum distributions in pp and p–Pb collisions. The mean transverse momenta follow mass ordering as previously observed for other hyperons in the same collision systems. A Blast-Wave function constrained by other light hadrons (π, K, KS0, p, Λ) describes the shape of the Λ (1520) transverse momentum distribution up to 3.5GeV/c in p–Pb collisions. In the framework of this model, this observation suggests that the Λ (1520) resonance participates in the same collective radial flow as other light hadrons. The ratio of the yield of Λ (1520) to the yield of the ground state particle Λ remains constant as a function of charged-particle multiplicity, suggesting that there is no net effect of the hadronic phase in p–Pb collisions on the Λ (1520) yield.

The analysis is performed in the dimuon decay channel at forward rapidity ( $$2.5andlt; y andlt; 4$$ 2.5 andlt; y andlt; 4 ). The integrated cross sections and transverse-momentum ( $$p_{\textrm{T}}$$ p T ) and rapidity ( $$y$$ y ) differential cross sections for $$\textrm{J}/\psi $$ J / П€ , $$\psi \mathrm{(2S)}$$ П€ ( 2 S ) , $$\Upsilon \mathrm (1S)$$ ОҐ ( 1 S ) , and the $$\psi \mathrm{(2S)}$$ П€ ( 2 S ) -to- $$\textrm{J}/\psi $$ J / П€ cross section ratios are presented. The integrated cross sections, assuming unpolarized quarkonia, are: $$\sigma _{\textrm{J}/\psi }$$ Пѓ J / П€ ( $$p_{\textrm{T}} andlt;20$$ p T andlt; 20 GeV/c) = 5.88 В± 0.03 В± 0.34 $$ ~\mu $$ Ој b, $$\sigma _{\psi \mathrm{(2S)}}$$ Пѓ П€ ( 2 S ) ( $$p_{\textrm{T}} andlt;12$$ p T andlt; 12 GeV/c) = 0.87 В± 0.06 В± 0.10 $$~\mu $$ Ој b, $$\sigma _{\Upsilon \mathrm (1S)}$$ Пѓ ОҐ ( 1 S ) ( $$p_{\textrm{T}} andlt;15$$ p T andlt; 15 GeV/c) = 45.5 В± 3.9 В± 3.5 nb, $$\sigma _{\Upsilon \mathrm{(2S)}}$$ Пѓ ОҐ ( 2 S ) ( $$p_{\textrm{T}} andlt;15$$ p T andlt; 15 GeV/c) = 22.4 В± 3.2 В± 2.7 nb, and $$\sigma _{\Upsilon \mathrm{(3S)}}$$ Пѓ ОҐ ( 3 S ) ( $$p_{\textrm{T}} andlt;15$$ p T andlt; 15 GeV/c) = 4.9 В± 2.2 В± 1.0 nb, where the first (second) uncertainty is the statistical (systematic) one. For the first time, the cross sections of the three $$\Upsilon $$ ОҐ states, as well as the $$\psi \mathrm{(2S)}$$ П€ ( 2 S ) one as a function of $$p_{\textrm{T}}$$ p T and $$y$$ y , are measured at $$\sqrt{s} = 5.02$$ s = 5.02 TeV at forward rapidity. These measurements also significantly extend the $$\textrm{J}/\psi $$ J / П€ $$p_{\textrm{T}}$$ p T reach and supersede previously published results. A comparison with ALICE measurements in pp collisions at $$\sqrt{s} = 2.76$$ s = 2.76 , 7, 8, and 13 TeV is presented and the energy dependence of quarkonium production cross sections is discussed. Finally, the results are compared with the predictions from several production models."

The pseudorapidity density of charged particles, d N ch / d η, in p–Pb collisions has been measured at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon–nucleon pair of sNN = 8.16 TeV at mid-pseudorapidity for non-single-diffractive events. The results cover 3.6 units of pseudorapidity, | η| < 1.8. The d N ch / d η value is 19.1 ± 0.7 at | η| < 0.5. This quantity divided by ⟨ N part ⟩ / 2 is 4.73 ± 0.20 , where ⟨ N part ⟩ is the average number of participating nucleons, is 9.5% higher than the corresponding value for p–Pb collisions at sNN = 5.02 TeV. Measurements are compared with models based on different mechanisms for particle production. All models agree within uncertainties with data in the Pb-going side, while HIJING overestimates, showing a symmetric behaviour, and EPOS underestimates the p-going side of the d N ch / d η distribution. Saturation-based models reproduce the distributions well for η> - 1.3. The d N ch / d η is also measured for different centrality estimators, based both on the charged-particle multiplicity and on the energy deposited in the Zero-Degree Calorimeters. A study of the implications of the large multiplicity fluctuations due to the small number of participants for systems like p–Pb in the centrality calculation for multiplicity-based estimators is discussed, demonstrating the advantages of determining the centrality with energy deposited near beam rapidity.

The observed femtoscopic correlations are consistent with final-state interactions proceeding solely via the a0(980) resonance. The extracted kaon source radius and correlation strength parameters for KS 0K− are found to be equal within the experimental uncertainties to those for KS 0K+. Results of the present study are compared with those from identical-kaon femtoscopic studies also performed with pp collisions at s=7 TeV by ALICE and with a KS 0K± measurement in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV. Combined with the Pb–Pb results, our pp analysis is found to be compatible with the interpretation of the a0(980) having a tetraquark structure instead of that of a diquark.
