© 2019 International Institute of Refrigeration. All rights reserved. In our report, we present new results on investigation of the influence of temperature on the levitation force between the stacks of high temperature superconducting tapes (or coated conductor - CC tapes) and a permanent magnets. We studied the changing in value of levitation force at decreasing of temperature down to 30 K for field cooled (FC) and zero field cooled (ZFC) modes for various number of tape in the stack. In the measurements we used 12 mm wide commercially available CC-tape manufactured by SuperOx. The tapes were cut into pieces 12 mm x 12 mm. The number of layers in the stack ranged from 5 to 100. Cooling of the CC-tapes stack was carried out in cryo-free cryostat. Temperature range was from 30 to 80 K. Results showed that temperature has much influence on levitation force in ZFC mode whereas for FC mode the influence of temperature on levitation force is insignificant. The experimental data were compared with the results of calculations performed by using COMSOL Multiphysics. The obtained results are very useful for the practical application in magnetic levitation based systems.

© 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.This paper presents a numerical layered 2G HTS tape model with the transport current flowing through it. The simulation is performed by using FEM H-formulation method implemented in the Comsol Multyphysics software. The model provides two cooling modes: cryocooler and liquid nitrogen. LN2 cooling mode provides for a complex hysteresis character of the liquid nitrogen boiling curve and the boiling regimes changing possibility between the stationary and the bubble boiling. The delay of the voltage rising with a transport current above the critical value pulse input is shown in the liquid nitrogen cooling case. The possibility of parameters calculating for current redistribution from the HTS to the stabilizing copper layer is shown, and the stabilizing coating thickness effect on the thermal transition critical current value is studied A comparison with experimental results is carried out.

Experimental investigation of the processes of degradation and transition to the normal state in CC-tapes under the action of current pulses
(2019) Osipov, M.; Pokrovskii, S.; Abin, D.; Anishchenko, I.; Rudnev, I.; Осипов, Максим Андреевич; Покровский, Сергей Владимирович; Абин, Дмитрий Александрович; Мартиросян, Ирина Валерьевна; Руднев, Игорь Анатольевич
© 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.The study of the behaviour of CC tapes under the action of nonstationary current loads was conducted: a transition to the normal state was observed, as well as processes of CC-tape degradation. The obtained data make it possible to solve the problems associated with the creation of high-speed switching devices based on higherature superconductors, intended for functioning in superconducting energy storage devices, energy distribution and transmission systems, current limiters, and new types of transport. In addition to superconducting switches, pulsed current loads can occur in the mentioned above systems due to short-circuit conditions or other factors, and can lead to local heating of HTSC, especially if there is an inhomogenity in the critical current in the CC-tapes. In this work we present the results of a study of non-stationary processes second generation HTS tapes heating under the impulse current loads with amplitudes up to 2.2Ic (77K, self-field). Superconducting tapes with a copper protective layer were used as the samples. The I-V characteristics of the samples were measured under the action of current pulses during cooling in liquid nitrogen. Critical parameters (amplitude, rise time of the transport current) of the current pulses, leading to the degradation of the superconductor were obtained. local current carrying characteristics of CC-tapes investigated using Hall probe magnetometry. The features of the influence of local inhomogeneities in the distribution of the critical current of the tapes on the transition of the superconductor to the normal state are revealed.

Energy losses in magnetic contactless bearings on the base of high-Tc superconducting tapes
(2019) Rudnev, I. A.; Podlivaev, A. I.; Osipov, M. A.; Abin, D. A.; Anishchenko, I. V.; Pokrovskii, S. V.; Руднев, Игорь Анатольевич; Подливаев, Алексей Игоревич; Осипов, Максим Андреевич; Абин, Дмитрий Александрович; Мартиросян, Ирина Валерьевна; Покровский, Сергей Владимирович
© 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.Higherature superconducting tapes are very promising for application in rotary magnetic bearings owing to its excellent magnetic and transport properties as well as possibility to easy create magneto-levitation systems of various geometry. One of problem arising in the rotation superconducting bearings is the presence of the energy loss resulting from the magnetization hysteresis due to inhomogeneity of magnetic field from permanent magnets. In this report we present results theoretical studies of rotation losses in the model superconducting bearing based on commercial high temperature superconducting (HTS) tape. The bearing stator has a cylindrical shape and is made of a multilayer HTSC tape. The bearing rotor is made of permanent magnets located at the same radius relative to the axis of rotation. As a result of numerical calculations carried out in the framework of the critical state model, the rotor geometry was established, at which the value of energy losses was minimal.

Influence of the critical current on the levitation force of stacks of coated conductor superconducting tapes
(2019) Osipov, M.; Starikovskii, A.; Abin, D.; Rudnev, I.; Осипов, Максим Андреевич; Стариковский, Александр Сергеевич; Абин, Дмитрий Александрович; Руднев, Игорь Анатольевич
The majority of superconducting levitation systems are based on bulk superconductors. However, recently, stacks of coated conductor superconducting tapes (CC-tapes) have shown a proven potential to act as an alternative to superconducting bulks as components of a magnetic levitation system. This work primarily focuses on the influence of the critical current density on the levitation force of stacks of CC-tapes. The levitation force was measured for stacks of tapes made by different manufacturers, with different values of the critical current and substrate thickness. In our experiment, we used superconducting tapes manufactured by SuperOx, Theva and Sunam. The tapes were cut into 12 mm square pieces. The number of layers in the stack ranged from 10 to 100. Levitation forces were studied for all types of tapes and for various numbers of layers in the stack. As expected, it was found that a higher critical current corresponds to a higher levitation force. The levitation force of the stacks assembled from tapes with a higher critical current tends to saturate for lower numbers of elements in the stack.
