© European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA).An essential increasing of the tensile strength properties of the ferritic/martensitic stainless steel manufactured by PM HIP using the rapidly quenched powder was experimentally revealed by the tensile strength tests of the ring specimens of the nuclear fuel cladding tubes after exposure at 600 C in molten lithium with addition of 0.05% hydrogen when compared with exposure in pure lithium. The ring tensile tests of specimens cut from cladding tubes were carried out at room temperature. Detailed investigation of microstructure, distribution of carbon, boron and substitutional alloying elements after corrosion tests of the ferritic/martensitic stainless steel in pure lithium, in lithium with addition of 0.05% hydrogen, and in argon environment was performed. A noticeable smaller grains size and nucleation of the dispersive precipitates in the ferritic/martensitic stainless steel specimens after exposure in lithium with addition of hydrogen evidently are the main reasons of the revealed increasing of the tensile strength properties.
