IEEEThe magnetization stability of a YBCO superconductor was numerically investigated using the Monte Carlo method. The magnetization-reversal curves of samples with various pinning configurations (periodic and random) were calculated, together with the minor loops caused by field inhomogeneities. The areas bounded by the partial loops provided estimations of hysteresis energy losses of samples for various ambient temperatures. Samples providing a balance between the critical current, pin-ning properties, and energy losses, were identified. Among the considered distributions, the homogeneous (periodic) defect con-figurations showed the highest efficiency.
