dc.description.abstract© 2022 Author(s).This paper presents the results of sequential adjustment of heat treatment mode for obtaining desired mechanical and physical characteristics of precipitation hardening iron-nickel alloy SAE AMS5221. Experimentally, varying the time and temperature, an aging mode (T = 675 ± 20°C and t = 3.5 h) at which the hardness of the alloy becomes maximum was detected. It is shown that after quenching iron-nickel alloy acquires high ductility, and its subsequent hardening occurs during aging. It was revealed that if there is aging after quenching, the ductility of the alloy is halved, while the yield stress σ0.2 increases by 2.5 times, and the tensile strength σB doubles. Mechanical tests for uniaxial tension at room temperature showed that increasing of quenching temperatures from 910 to 950°C does not significantly contribute to strength properties of the alloy. The total elongation ϵtot of specimens till the fracture remains at the same level, and the tensile strength varies slightly.
