© 2020 Elsevier B.V.The samples of the HTS-2G GdBCO(123) tape were uniformly irradiated at room temperature by 132Xe27+ ions with energies of 80 and 40 MeV. The critical current at T = 77 K, the critical temperature, and the superconducting transition width have been studied, depending on the irradiation fluencies. The observed dependences of the critical current indicate an improvement in the current-carrying capacity of the composite tape under low-dose irradiation (1×109−5×109 ion/cm2). The results are compared with previously obtained data on the irradiation of the same tape with 167 MeV xenon ions. It is shown that the threshold for the formation of radiation damage due to ionization for this material is in the range of 40 MeV – 80 MeV. Possible mechanisms of the observed effect are discussed.
