© 2020, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.Abstract: Using the Lagrangian equation for the envelopes of the longitudinal motion of a non-relativistic charged particle bunch in the field of a traveling wave, we obtained solutions to the problem of optimizing this motion. The pronounced extrema of the bunch size and its spectrum were found and confirmed by test calculations. The technique developed and described in the paper can be of high interest for solving the problems of optimizing the dynamics of charged particle beams in resonant linear accelerators for ions at low energies.
