© 2020 Elsevier GmbHThe Fokas-Lenells equation is considered taking into account the traveling wave reduction. It is shown that the exact solutions of this equation proposed in recent papers by N. Mahak and G. Akram are incorrect. The fallacy of the method for constructing exact solutions to the overdetermined system of equations by these authors is discussed. A correct method for constructing exact solutions of the Fokas-Lenells equation is presented and general solutions of this equation is given.
