    © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.The 2nd generation composite HTS tapes samples based on the GdBCO (123) compound were irradiated in a pulsed electron accelerator (Terek-2 facility, IOF RAS) through a tantalum target to determine the thermal and shock loads effect at the tantalum-HTS boundary on the HTS tapes superconducting characteristics. Scanning Hall magnetometry was used to characterize the HTS samples after the electron irradiation exposure. The thermal modes and shock load in a composite superconductor under the irradiation influence are estimated depending on the magnitude of energy contribution to the target. At a silver surface temperature equal to the melting temperature, the critical current value drops by 87% of the initial value. At lower energy, a weaker critical current decrease was observed. The temperature effects and shock waves roles under the irradiation is discussed.

    Аннотация – В данной работе представлены результаты исследований неравновесных состояний в ленточных высокотемпературных сверхпроводниках при импульсной токовой нагрузке. Для исследования переходных процессов в сверхпроводнике при критических токовых нагрузках разработана методика и создан экспериментальный стенд, позволяющий выполнять визуализацию тепловых процессов в композите при критических токовых нагрузках с высоким временным разрешением. Исследована динамика тепловых процессов в ВТСП ленте при токовых нагрузках, показаны особенности тепловых процессов, приводящих к смене режимов кипения жидкого хладагента. Изучен процесс разрушения ВТСП образца под действием сверхкритической токовой нагрузки на миллисекундном масштабе.

    Моделирование распределения токов и энергетических потерь в сверхпроводящем corc-кабеле

    Представлены результаты численного моделирования характеристик сверхпроводящего CORC-кабеля в условиях циклической синхронной нагрузки электрическим током и магнитным полем при охлаждении жидким неоном. Проведен расчет распределений магнитного поля и токов в системе, механических напряжений и деформаций, энергетических потерь, возникающих при перемагничивании магнитным полем и электрическим током. Показаны особенности электродинамических и теплофизических процессов, происходящих в системе при синхронной токовой и магнитополевой нагрузке при различных углах намотки ВТСП лент. Моделирование выполнено методом конечных элементов в пакете программного обеспечения Comsol Multiphysics. Модель ориентирована на расчет магнитной системы сверхпроводящего индуктивного накопителя энергии в составе коллайдера протонов и тяжелых ионов NICA (Nuclotron based Ion Collider fAcility), строящегося на базе Лаборатории физики высоких энергий (ЛФВЭ) им. В.И. Векслера и А.М. Балдина Объединенного института ядерных исследований (ОИЯИ).

    Modeling of magnetization and levitation force of HTS tapes in magnetic fields of complex configurations

    In many levitation systems superconductors are used in combination with permanent magnets. In this paper we considered three types of magnetic assemblies that are most often used: with magnets oriented in one direction, oppositely oriented magnets and the Halbach array. Based on the H-formalism, we performed modeling of a magnetic field and levitation force in a system consisting of the high temperature superconductor (HTS) tape stack and the assembly of permanent magnets. It was shown that if a spatial distribution of a gradient magnetic field changes in height it is necessary to take into account the magnetic history of the superconductor. The proposed computational model includes a combination of scalar and vector potentials, as well as modeling the real movement of an HTS tape stack in a levitation system. The simulation results were verified by corresponding experiments. The proposed approach is universal for modeling levitation systems of complex configurations.

    Magnetometry Diagnostics of Defects in High-Temperature Superconducting Tapes in a Gradient Magnetic Field

    © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Abstract: A new technique for contactless magnetometric determination of the local critical current in high-temperature superconducting tapes is proposed. In contrast to conventional approaches, where currents in a superconductor are induced by a uniform magnetic field of an external source, in our variant the tape is magnetized by a series of bipolar permanent magnets. It is shown that, for solving a number of technical problems of defect diagnostics, the proposed approach is more effective than those used earlier. Two variants of diagnostics are discussed. The first variant is intended for express diagnostics of local defects (first of all, transverse cracks) in a separate tape and in a tape stack and the second variant is developed for the case of a smooth critical current variation in a separate tape. The proposed method can significantly improve the accuracy of determining the local critical current density.

    The influence of cryogenic temperature on characteristics of superconducting maglev systems

In our report, we present new results on investigation of the influence of temperature on the levitation force between the stacks of high temperature superconducting tapes (or coated conductor - CC tapes) and a permanent magnets. We studied the changing in value of levitation force at decreasing of temperature down to 30 K for field cooled (FC) and zero field cooled (ZFC) modes for various number of tape in the stack. In the measurements we used 12 mm wide commercially available CC-tape manufactured by SuperOx. The tapes were cut into pieces 12 mm x 12 mm. The number of layers in the stack ranged from 5 to 100. Cooling of the CC-tapes stack was carried out in cryo-free cryostat. Temperature range was from 30 to 80 K. Results showed that temperature has much influence on levitation force in ZFC mode whereas for FC mode the influence of temperature on levitation force is insignificant. The experimental data were compared with the results of calculations performed by using COMSOL Multiphysics. The obtained results are very useful for the practical application in magnetic levitation based systems.

    Nonequilibrium States in HTS Tapes under the Action of Short Current Pulses

    © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.This paper presents the results of studying the nonequilibrium processes in second generation HTS tapes under the action of pulsed current loads. In the study, we used short current pulses of various amplitudes from 0.9 to 5 values of the superconductor critical current. The minimum rise time of the current was 8 µs, and the pulse duration was from 1 to 250 µs. Comparisons in the behavior of samples under long current pulses with current rise time more than 3 ms were carried out. A qualitative difference in the formation of an nonequilibrium state during short and long current pulses was found. A stable current flow with amplitudes up to 4 times larger than the critical current was obtained without degradation of the superconductor. Experimental results were analyzed on the basis of the dynamic resistance model in the flux flow regime.

    Numerical simulation of the fast processes in HTS tapes under the pulsed current load

The simulation is performed by using FEM H-formulation method implemented in the Comsol Multyphysics software. The model provides two cooling modes: cryocooler and liquid nitrogen. LN2 cooling mode provides for a complex hysteresis character of the liquid nitrogen boiling curve and the boiling regimes changing possibility between the stationary and the bubble boiling. The delay of the voltage rising with a transport current above the critical value pulse input is shown in the liquid nitrogen cooling case. The possibility of parameters calculating for current redistribution from the HTS to the stabilizing copper layer is shown, and the stabilizing coating thickness effect on the thermal transition critical current value is studied A comparison with experimental results is carried out.

    Experimental investigation of the processes of degradation and transition to the normal state in CC-tapes under the action of current pulses

    © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.The study of the behaviour of CC tapes under the action of nonstationary current loads was conducted: a transition to the normal state was observed, as well as processes of CC-tape degradation. The obtained data make it possible to solve the problems associated with the creation of high-speed switching devices based on higherature superconductors, intended for functioning in superconducting energy storage devices, energy distribution and transmission systems, current limiters, and new types of transport. In addition to superconducting switches, pulsed current loads can occur in the mentioned above systems due to short-circuit conditions or other factors, and can lead to local heating of HTSC, especially if there is an inhomogenity in the critical current in the CC-tapes. In this work we present the results of a study of non-stationary processes second generation HTS tapes heating under the impulse current loads with amplitudes up to 2.2Ic (77K, self-field). Superconducting tapes with a copper protective layer were used as the samples. The I-V characteristics of the samples were measured under the action of current pulses during cooling in liquid nitrogen. Critical parameters (amplitude, rise time of the transport current) of the current pulses, leading to the degradation of the superconductor were obtained. local current carrying characteristics of CC-tapes investigated using Hall probe magnetometry. The features of the influence of local inhomogeneities in the distribution of the critical current of the tapes on the transition of the superconductor to the normal state are revealed.
